Kingsport ZIP Code Areas and Postal Labels
Six ZIP references serve the Kingsport postal and city area in the research record. That list is a starting point, not a map of exact street boundaries. USPS assigns a ZIP from a complete delivery address, and the public static descriptions do not settle every boundary, station, or PO-box question. The table preserves the local labels that were located while keeping the known limits visible. For each street, verify the actual delivery assignment before using a ZIP code in a property, voter, or map search.
| ZIP code | Areas or labels located | Post office or delivery area | Research note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 37660 | Kingsport; Bloomingdale label appears in ZIP descriptions | Kingsport postal delivery area | Standard ZIP; may include addresses outside city limits |
| 37662 | Kingsport postal area | Kingsport postal area; exact station not located | Use only after a USPS exact-address check; static data did not resolve status |
| 37663 | Kingsport; Colonial Heights or Colonial Hgts label | Kingsport and Colonial Heights postal delivery area | Standard ZIP; the label is not the city boundary |
| 37664 | Kingsport | Kingsport postal delivery area | Standard ZIP; exact street boundary requires USPS |
| 37665 | Kingsport; Lynn Garden label | Kingsport and Lynn Garden postal delivery area | Standard ZIP; postal place may differ from city limit |
| 37669 | Kingsport | Kingsport postal area | Exact standard or PO-box scope was not located in an authoritative static source |
The names Colonial Heights, Lynn Garden, and Bloomingdale are useful geographic clues. They are not neighborhood polygons for a resident search. In particular, public facility addresses in a ZIP do not prove that every address in that ZIP lies in the city. Use the full address and the city-limit record for that question.
Verify a Kingsport Postal ZIP
The authoritative first check is USPS ZIP Lookup with the complete street address. Record the USPS city, state, and ZIP result rather than relying on a directory label or a static map. The research did not have a current representative-address verification for every Kingsport-serving ZIP, so the address-by-address method is deliberate. It prevents an uncertain public description from being treated as a precise delivery boundary.
Next, compare the postal result with the city’s maps. Kingsport planning materials distinguish city limits from the Urban Growth Boundary, and city territory has changed through annexation. A Kingsport mailing label can occur in unincorporated county geography. The city also has a small municipal footprint in Hawkins County, which means a parcel may need a different county custodian than a reader expects. Postal geography is one part of the answer, not a substitute for a parcel or jurisdiction check.
Note: Keep the USPS result with the full address because a ZIP label alone cannot resolve a street’s municipal or county jurisdiction.
Kingsport Postal Search Steps
Once a ZIP has been confirmed for a complete address, use it to narrow the next official search rather than to create a broad resident roster. GoVoteTN supports a known voter’s name with an optional ZIP and also supports an address mode. TPAD is then the parcel tool, but its inspected advanced form has no ZIP field. That local mismatch is important: ZIP starts the address check, while parcel identifiers and property address carry the search into Sullivan County records.
- Enter the complete delivery address in USPS ZIP Lookup and record its postal assignment.
- Compare the address with Kingsport city-limit or annexation map context and confirm whether Sullivan or another county custodian applies.
- For a known voter, use GoVoteTN with the name and optional ZIP, or the street-address and ZIP path. Do not treat it as an open ZIP-wide roster.
- Search TPAD by property address, owner, subdivision, sale date, or parcel components. Save the parcel and legal-description clues for the deed trail.
- Open the county GIS entry point for map context, then check deeds or city records only after the parcel and jurisdiction agree.
After a ZIP has narrowed the search to a street, the parcel-by-parcel sequence belongs in the Kingsport street directory. That route is more reliable for a named street because it follows the address and parcel rather than assuming a ZIP boundary is exact.
Kingsport Postal Search Fields
The available tools do not use ZIP in the same way. USPS assigns a ZIP from a complete address. GoVoteTN uses ZIP as part of a known-voter lookup. TPAD does not expose a ZIP field in the inspected advanced form, but it offers the property keys that follow a confirmed address. Reading each field as a different key prevents a ZIP code directory search from claiming more than the portal can return.
| Official tool | ZIP-related input | What the tool is for |
|---|---|---|
| USPS ZIP Lookup | Complete delivery address | Confirm city, state, and ZIP for that address |
| GoVoteTN | Name mode with optional ZIP, or street address plus ZIP | Known-voter information, polling, district, and ballot context |
| TPAD advanced search | No inspected ZIP field | Property address, owner, subdivision, classification, sale dates, and parcel components |
| County GIS | Address and selected map layers | Parcel geometry and map context; live layer availability needs inspection |
TPAD’s main search accepts a property address, owner name, or parcel ID. Its advanced fields also allow sorting by owner name, property address, parcel ID, subdivision, classification, or sale date. The public results display owner, property address, control map, group, parcel, special interest, parcel ID, subdivision, lot, class, and sale date. Check the parcel detail or the assessor before relying on fields that were not safely shown in the inspected result text.
Kingsport ZIPs and City Limits
A ZIP boundary and a city boundary answer different questions. Postal service areas route mail. City limits determine municipal geography. County lines direct a search to the right assessment, deed, court, or tax custodian. Kingsport’s first charter dates to 1822, its original charter was lost in 1879, and the modern city received a second charter in 1917. Annexation over later decades adds another layer to a historical address question.
- ZIP
- A postal routing designation assigned by USPS for a delivery address. It is not a municipal boundary.
- ZIP+4
- An added four-digit delivery segment used with a ZIP to refine mail routing for an address or part of a route.
- PO-box ZIP
- A ZIP that may be used for post-office boxes rather than all physical street deliveries. The status of 37662 and 37669 needs USPS confirmation.
- Carrier route
- A mail-delivery route within a postal area. It helps delivery operations but does not establish a property boundary.
The Kingsport planning maps explain how to enter an address, open layers, and view City Zoning with the Urban Growth Boundary. For exact title boundaries, use a recorded deed and legal description, not a map display or postal designation.
Kingsport Postal Labels Need Context
Colonial Heights, Lynn Garden, Bloomingdale, Orebank, and Kingsport can appear in the same family or property trail. That is a local geography issue, not evidence that the labels share the same city line. The research specifically notes that a local address may have three identities: postal city and ZIP, municipal city line, and county tax or judicial jurisdiction. Keep each label with the source that used it and compare it with the date of the record.
This matters for older research too. Old Kingsport around the Netherland Inn and Holston River differs from the later planned municipality. The 1906 plan, 1916 and 1925 Sanborn maps, annexation-by-decade map, tax-map index, and current city-limit material can help place a historical address in its proper period. Maps show what stood nearby or which jurisdiction applied. Deeds answer who held title.
Note: Do not draw precise neighborhood boundaries from static ZIP descriptions when USPS assigns the definitive ZIP only from a complete address.
Kingsport Postal Map Context
The Sullivan County GIS viewer can provide parcel geometry and map context after an address is known. Kingsport’s map resources also include city limits, zoning, annexation decades, tax-map index, school maps, and police-zone maps. Those tools can help distinguish service geography from the records needed for a parcel. The research did not capture the exact GIS layer names or parcel pop-up tools, so do not assume a ZIP layer, adjacency tool, or specific result will be available.
City eTRAKiT can be useful after the address is fixed because its public shell exposes permit, planning, property, inspection, license, and violation modules. It is a city-record route, not a ZIP code directory. Likewise, school attendance maps and district maps can put a block in context, but the school system should verify current boundary information. Use each map for its stated purpose.
Kingsport Postal Search Limits
A ZIP can confirm a delivery area for a complete address. It cannot establish who lives at every address in that area. TPAD identifies assessed owners and parcel clues, not a complete resident list. A mailing address can differ from a property’s situs address, and that difference can reflect an entity, estate, trust, or other arrangement. It should not be republished as the physical address of a resident.
GoVoteTN is also limited to an individual lookup path, not a downloadable household directory. Tennessee voter records withhold key identifiers, and protected participants can have alternative address handling. Public utility customer lists and driver records are not a ZIP-search substitute. When a source is uncertain or a person has a protected address, stop at the record’s stated limit and contact the appropriate custodian for lawful, specific access.
Use ZIP results with care. Kingsport postal and property sources support legitimate address, family-history, property, and civic research. Never use them to stalk, harass, intimidate, or harm anyone.
